After graduating from university, I felt a strong sense of loneliness and lack of connection to society, and my mind felt like it had left my body and my feet were not touching the ground. In the midst of all this, I moved to Oita and was trying to find myself again when I happened to come across a book by neurologist Oliver Sacks at a library and became interested in it. Reading his book, I realized that everything we see is what our brains show us. I was convinced by his words, "What the brain wants to know is this world, not the light and sound itself," and expressed the "other truth" behind the world we normally see. This work made me realize that I don't understand anything even about the random scenery of everyday life, and that it is within those scenes that I find the subject I should depict.
